Educational Grants Strategy and Areas of Focus

Ortho Clinical Diagnostics proudly supports professional educational activities that can educate health care professionals and/or patients about relevant disease states of interest to our company to achieve the overall goal of improving the quality of Health Care.

Review Process

The educational grant process ensures that we consistently operate within federal and state laws and industry standards, including tax guidelines, with regard to funding programs or activities for any organization or provider.  We will comply with the FDA’s Guidance on Industry-Supported Scientific and Educational Activities and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) guidelines when considering support for educational activities.

All requests are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary committee.  All requests should be submitted and received at least 45 days before the scheduled event.  The committee will evaluate each request and render a decision on whether the company should or should not support the request.

Eligibility Criteria

Requests for educational support must meet the eligibility criteria:

Requesting organization should be an academic institution, hospital, accredited provider, professional society, medical association, or patient advocacy group.

Educational grants must support bona fide educational activities and involve a scientific exchange of information with a medical focus or patient education.

Fellowship grants may only be provided to teaching institutions and affiliated hospital or medical society/association with a bona fide fellowship committee or a similar selection organization and process.

The amount requested for the fellowship must be commensurate with the activities to be performed by the fellow.  Ordinary overhead expenses of the recipient institution cannot be included.

Request must be submitted directly by the requesting organization through the Educational Grants Extranet Application located on the company website.

Examples of requests that are not supported are:

Promotional events, operational overhead, administrative costs, or any event that has already occurred.

Activities from commercially-owned medical education and communication companies (MECCs) to provide education.  (We can support a program run by an academic institution, hospital, accredited provider, professional society, or medical association in collaboration with a MECC.  The funding must go to the academic institution, hospital, accredited provider, professional society or medical association.)

Travel, conference expenses or honoraria for program attendees presenting a "poster presentation:" or "free paper".

In order for your request to receive consideration, the Company requires the request to be formally submitted in writing, at least 45 days prior to the date of the event.  Please note there is a sixty (60) minute time limit to enter your request on-line and you cannot save a partially completed request to complete at a later time.  Make sure you have all the required information readily available prior to entering your request.  Submit the written request on your organization’s letterhead along with the following:
